Update: Health Insurance Cancellations: The Truth About Who Knew What When

publication date: Nov 15, 2013

Update: CNN's Jake Tapper found the following exchange from the 2010 health care summit which clearly demonstrates that Obama knew that millions of Americans were going to lose their health insurance. Listen carefully to the President's rationalization which we now know is clearly false:

President Obama and other leading political advocates for the Affordable Care Act have been in the news recently as millions of Americans (myself included) receive health insurance cancellations. At issue are the promises made to folks that if they liked their health care plans and doctors, Obamacare wouldn’t change any of that.

Well, it turns out that those promises are being proven false and many individual health insurance policy holders are finding themselves scrambling to find coverage. Amazingly, on the White House’s own website is the following August, 3, 2009 video in which they actually highlight clips of the President making promises that have now been proven completely false.

If you don’t wish to watch the short video below, I’ve quoted the relevant portions of the transcript beneath the video.

Linda Douglass: Hi, I’m Linda Douglass, I’m the communications director for the White House Office of Health Reform, and one of my jobs is to keep track of all the disinformation that’s out there about health insurance reform, and there are a lot of very deceiving headlines out there right now.

There are people out there with a computer and a lot of free time, and they take a phrase here and there – they simply cherry pick and put it together – and make it sound like he’s saying something that he didn’t really say. Now, for example, here’s a clip that they probably won’t show you:

President Obama: Here’s a guarantee that I’ve made: If you have insurance that you like, then you will be able to keep that insurance. If you’ve got a doctor that you like, then you will be able to keep your doctor. Nobody is trying to change what work’s in the system. We are trying to change what doesn’t work in the system.

Linda Douglass: Here’s another one:

President Obama: If you like your plan and you like your doctor, you won’t have to do a thing. You keep your plan, you keep your doctor.
